Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved watching the Oscars, and Oscars 2016 did not disappoint. I love the glitz and glamour, I love seeing who’s won, and seeing what movies will be hitting our screens here in Europe very soon. And of course, what I love the MOST is the Styling – in particular the Makeup and Hairstyling.
Makeup Trends at Oscars 2016:
The Makeup this year contained many different trends. The classic smokey eye was one of the most popular looks on the red carpet this year.
It was really refreshing to see so many stars opt for more colourful lip colours, rather than the standard nude tones. Although nude tones are always a great choice of course, it’s nice to see a few brighter colours which add so much more glamour to a look. Very fitting for an event like the Oscars. There were beautiful tangerine and berry tones to be seen, as well as the classic red lip, which never goes out of fashion. Eyebrows were left very natural, with just a minimal amount of eyebrow powder and eyeybrow pencil brushed through them. That gets a big thumbs up from me, as I’m not a fan at all of the very overdone and unnatural looking eyebrow looks that are doing the rounds a lot on social media these days.
Hairstyling Trends at Oscars 2016:
On the Hair front, there were some classic Old-Hollywood style waves to be seen. As a lot of you know, I’m a HUGE fan of Braids, so I was so happy to see a few braided hairstyles making an appearance this year.
One of the biggest trends I noticed was Beach Waves. I’ve always been a big fan of this soft, relaxed look, although funnily enough, this can actually be harder to achieve than you think. However, I’m a girl who loves to keep things simple. So my tip to achieving this look is to wash your hair, spray a couple of mists of sea salt spray, then twist your hair into a bun. Tie your hair with an elastic band, and leave it dry naturally. You could also braid your hair to get a similar affect. After a few hours, or once your hair has dried, take it down, and voila – beautiful beach waves.
And the winner is.. Okay, a little cheesy I know. 🙂 Here are my favourite looks from Oscars 2016.
This is my ABSOLUTE favourite look from Oscars 2016. I love EVERYTHING about Saoirse’s look, from her incredibly sexy, yet subtle, smokey eye, to her beautiful beach waves. And not to mention her stunning green Calvin Klein gown. I’m a huge fan of smokey eyes, and a soft, grey smokey eye like Saoirse’s is so much more flattering than black. And last but not least, my favourite thing about Saoirse – she’s a fellow Irish girl. Seriously, what’s not to like about her so? 🙂
I’m seriously in love with this beautiful tangerine lipcolour. It’s such a modern and refreshing alternative to the classic red lip. I love how her cheeks have a wonderful flush to them, which makes her skin look ultra fresh and glowing. Combined with her stunning dress, this look really gets me in the mood for Spring and Summer. I also love her elegant, yet slightly undone, low bun hairstyle. This would be beautiful for a bride, and you could add some fresh flowers in your hair for added gorgeousness ( I think I made up a word there 🙂 ). Last, but not least, take a look at Olivia’s eyebrows. They’re totally natural, which really frames her face so well. Nothing overdone about these at all.
Once again, Oscar Winner Brie opted for a beautifully refreshing lip tone. I adore this berry tone, and it’s a great tone that looks as good in Spring/Summer as it does in Autumn/Winter. This tone really suits her lovely warm complexion. I’m also loving her slightly smokey, slightly winged out eyeliner, which really accentuates her beautiful brown eyes. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of her hairstyle, as I feel it could have done with a little more volume. But overall, this is a beautiful, radiant look.
Okay, I know I’m going to show my age when I say this.. But seriously, I don’t think Isla Fischer has aged AT ALL since her days in Home and Away. (Am I the only one who remembers her in that show? 🙂 ) I love this very glamorous Red Carpet look. Her classic red lip is simply stunning, and is timeless. I’m in love with her side swept ponytail. Again, this would be a beautiful hairstyle for brides.
The ever glamorous Sofia Vergara did not disappoint at Oscars 2016. Her entire look was spot on from head to toe. Her winged eyeliner was very elegant, and very subtle and paired perfectly with her classic red lip. I also loved her hairstyle. The messy, loose waves added a very relaxed, yet stylish take on her ponytail. Whilst the added volume at the crown of her head made this far from your average, boring ponytail. This is perfect hairstyle for those bad hair days, when you can’t do anything with your hair.
Yes, you guessed it. Olivia Wilde’s gorgeous Braided Hairstyle was of course one of my favourite hairstyles at Oscars 2016. This hairstyle wouldn’t be out of place at Oktoberfest, and it also look fabulous on the red carpet. That’s one of my favourite things about braided hairstyles. They are so versatile, and look gorgeous on brides, on the red carpet, and for everyday looks. What’s not to like about braids?
Special mentions also go to these beautiful ladies. Naomi Watts and Reese Witherspoon are two of my favourite actresses, and they look even more stunning with every year that passes. I love Sophia Turner’s gorgeous smokey eye, and her stunning red hair really shows off her gorgeous, soft waves. Lady Gaga’s hairstyle was all out Old-Hollywood glam, whilst Tina Fey’s braided hairstyle was also one of my favourite hairstyles of the evening.
And last but not least, let’s give a little mention to the guys, who also looked just as good on the red carpet. 🙂 My favourite’s were these two boys. Okay, Leo was an obvious choice maybe, and I was delighted to see him win his Oscar. Whilst my second choice just missed out on winning the Oscar to Leo, Michael Fassbender still rocked that tux. Plus, you know, he’s also Irish. Yes, we’re a good looking bunch of people us Irish. 🙂
Now I’d really love to hear from you. Did you watch the Oscars? Were you happy with the winners? Who and what were your favourite looks on the red carpet this year? Share below in the comments. xo
