You’ve found the perfect venue, you’ve bought your dream dress. And now it’s time to think about your wedding day beauty. But you really need to consider a few things first. That way you’ll be sure your Bridal Makeup and Hairstyle will look absolutely radiant and flawless on your special day. So without further ado, here are my 5 Bridal Makeup Tips.
Let’s begin with my BRIDAL MAKEUP TIPS:
1. Your usual Makeup style:
Your Bridal Makeup should look like YOU, only even more radiant than usual. For example, if you usually wear very natural or nude makeup, don’t choose a full-on glamour look with smokey eyes and dark lips for your Bridal Makeup. The same principle applies if dark smokey eyes are your thing on a daily basis. It just wouldn’t look like you, if you were to all of a sudden wear nude makeup on your wedding day.
You want to feel as fabulous and amazing as possible on your special day, and if you don’t feel like ‘you’, then you’re going to feel uneasy all day long. I’m definitely a big fan of experimenting with new makeup looks, but when it comes to your bridal makeup, play it safe. Of all the Bridal Makeup Tips I will give you, this one is THE MOST IMPORTANT to keep in mind.
2. Be careful with Nude Makeup:
Whilst a nude or natural makeup always looks beautiful, you need to consider how this is going to look on camera. Makeup can get completely washed out by the camera if it’s too natural, and it can make you look very pale and ill in your wedding photos. How your makeup looks in natural light, is not how it’s going to look on camera.
Also remember, you’re going to be celebrating well into the early hours of the morning. So again, if your Bridal Makeup looks way too natural, it’s going to get washed out in the evening lights. The same applies to your lip colour. Whilst it’s tempting to go for a nude lipstick or gloss, be careful that the colour doesn’t make your lips look too pale.
When I work with my bridal clients, I always take some pictures on my iPad or iPhone at our Preview Session. This gives them some indication of how their Bridal Makeup looks on camera. If the makeup looks washed out and too pale in these photos, you can be sure that it’s going to look even paler on a high quality, professional camera.
When looking for ideas for their Bridal Makeup and Hairstyling, many brides use Pinterest or Instagram as their main sources of inspiration. I can see why. The pictures on these sites are always fabulous, and I’m a huge fan myself. However, what most people don’t realise, is that a lot of those pictures are from styled shootings. Meaning that the ‘brides’ in these photos are actually models, and everything has been staged to look absolutely perfect. Whilst this makes for beautiful photos, it doesn’t mean that the styling is necessarily going to be suitable for you or your wedding. You want your wedding to look real, not staged. Using these apps for inspiration and for Bridal Makeup Tips is great, but just don’t expect that your hairstyle or makeup is going to exactly the same as in these pictures.
Now it’s time to consider these BRIDAL HAIRSTYLING TIPS:
4. Be Realistic
When choosing your Bridal Hairstyle, you really have to think about your own hair length and the texture of your hair. It’s all good and well choosing a beautifully voluminous updo, or a long braided hairstyle. However, if you have fine or short hair, this realistically isn’t going to work on your hair type. The only way to possibly get a hairstyle like this with your hair type is to buy clip-in hair extensions. Even then, you have to be careful that this doesn’t look too fake.
If you have a bob or pixie hairstyle, it would look very strange when all of a sudden you have very long tresses. This is similar to point number one above, where I mentioned about looking like YOU, only even more radiant than usual. There are of course a few tricks that your hairstylist can do to make your hair look a little thicker. But, again, be realistic about what’s going to suit YOUR hair type. If you’re unsure, your hairstylist will be able to advise you whether your chosen hairstyle is possible or if it will suit you. If not, he or she will be able to make some suggestions for you.
5. Don’t make major changes:
If you’re thinking of making a big change to your hairstyle, make sure to do it AT LEAST a few months before your wedding day. And most definitely BEFORE your trial appointment. For example, perhaps your hair is long, and you want to go for a shorter style, or maybe add some layers. This is going to have an impact on what hairstyles are possible in your hair. Another thing to consider is if you’re thinking of changing your hair colour.
Remember, makeup shades that suit you now, are not necessarily going to suit your new hair colour. So, if you change your hairstyle or hair colour, not only is this going to have an impact on your Bridal Hairstyle but also to how your Bridal Makeup will look. If you do decide to go for a major change to your hair, doing so MONTHS before your wedding ensures that you’ve enough time to decide if you like your new hairstyle or not. You don’t want any big shocks so close to your wedding day!
