Are you ready to look & feel fabulous again? Let’s get started so.
Before we begin, I’ll mention again that a good skincare routine is, of course, one of the key elements to a glowing, healthy-looking complexion. And a good winter makeup routine is only as good as a great skincare routine. Be sure to check out these tips if you’re in need a great winter skincare routine.
Or if your skin is craving a quick boost of hydration and a bit of a detox after the holiday season, here are 5 ways you can lessen the effects of holiday stress on your skin.
WINTER MAKEUP TIPS
Now that you’ve got your winter skincare routine all sorted, let’s now talk about your winter makeup routine. You might think that having a pale, dull, tired looking complexion is all part and parcel of winter. But actually, the type of makeup products you’re wearing can be a big contributing factor to this. But once you know which products will make the difference, you’ll notice a huge boost in how bright your complexion looks. So here are 3 ways to easily improve your winter makeup routine and have a glowing,healthy-looking complexion in minutes.
Switch Your Foundation
I’m not talking about the shade of foundation you’re wearing. Although that does play a role and I’ll talk about that in a moment. I’m talking about the TYPE of foundation you’re wearing. And the type of foundation to avoid in your winter makeup routine is powder foundation. As I’m sure you’re all too well aware of, your skin lacks moisture and hydration in the winter time. And when your skin is dehydrated, your complexion looks dull and pale.
A powder foundation is mattifying. So it’s going to settle in, and highlight, those pesky dry patches and fine lines even further. And as I said, when your skin is dry and dehydrated, it looks dull and pale. So your powder foundation is going to exacerbate that. Not only that, it will make you look older too! What your skin really needs is a hydrating foundation instead. Opt for a hydrating liquid or cream foundation as it’ll put that gorgeous ‘glow’ back into your complexion. Or you could try adding some moisturiser to your liquid foundation.
In fact, the best type of foundation for YOUR skin is determined not by your skin tone, but by your skin TYPE. This post will help you to determine which type of foundation is best for your skin type.
Should I Opt For A Pale Foundation Shade in Winter?
No. Not necessarily. Sure, your complexion is obviously paler in Winter. But applying a very light shade of foundation is going to make you look even paler. So it’s actually okay to go a tiny bit darker with your foundation for your winter makeup routine.
ALWAYS Apply A Blusher
If you’re not wearing blusher, you should be! It’s an absolute MUST in any winter makeup routine. In fact, blusher is a must all year round. Wearing foundation alone is not going to put colour and life back into your complexion. Foundation will only even out your skin tone. But blusher IS literally going to put some colour on your cheeks and give you that gorgeous, healthy flush of colour that your complexion so badly needs in Winter. Just like foundation, try to opt for cream blushers rather than powder blushers.
If wearing blusher sounds a little scary to you, here’s how to choose the best blusher shade for your skin type and skin tone. And I also share some of my favourite cream blushers too.
If you’re not sure how to apply it, take a look at this tutorial where I show you my simple technique on how to apply blusher correctly.
A Light Dusting of Bronzer is Okay
It’s okay to apply a little bronzer to brighten up your complexion in winter. Just be careful not to go overboard. Remember, you still want your glow to look natural. And as we don’t get a lot of sunlight in winter, it would look very odd if you look like you spent a day basking in the sunshine at the beach! Less is always more with bronzer. Particularly in Winter. A very light dusting on the cheeks is more than enough to provide a nice, healthy, winter glow to your complexion.
Apply A Brightening Lipstick
If you only implement just one of these winter makeup tips into your routine, then please make sure it’s this one. And my tip is to ditch your nude lip shades in winter! Except for blusher, there’s nothing quite like a gorgeous lip colour to brighten up your complexion and make you look and FEEL amazing in an instant.
Trust me, your nude lip shades are doing you absolutely favours whatsoever in winter. Just like your foundation, pale or nude lipsticks will make your complexion look even duller and lifeless to the point where you look ill. They’re great in summer. But you need to put some colour back into your complexion in winter as you don’t get it from natural sunlight.
Which shades should I opt for?
Choose shades that will brighten and enhance your complexion. Red lipsticks are always a great choice. And berry shades that have a pinky-purple hue to them are also so flattering on almost everyone. But if you don’t know how to apply red lipsticks or prefer something a little less bright, rose coloured lip shades are also beautiful. In fact, they’re the perfect compromise between nudes and reds and are very flattering. Pinky-brown shades are also a great neutral alternative to nudes and will give just a hint of colour to brighten and enhance your face. And peach shades can also look very flattering too.
Be careful though not to opt for very dark, colourless shades. They’ll just make you look even paler and they’re also very ageing too. Unless you’re specifically going for that goth style look, I’d advise against this type of lip shade in Winter.
Are you up for a challenge?
Are you unsure which lip shades are right for your skin tone? Perhaps you’re tired of wearing the same old shade all the time. Maybe you want to learn how to apply lipstick and how to actually make it last. Or maybe you never wear lipstick and opt for gloss instead because it’s easier. Well if any or all of those are you, I’ve got a challenge that you’re going to love. And I’m going to show you how to do ALL of those things over a 5 day period. And the best bit is, this training is completely FREE! You can find out all the details of the 5-Day Lipstick Challenge here and how you can get access to it. Keep Your Lips Hydrated
Last but not least, make sure to look after your lips in winter too. It may sound obvious, but it’s an area we can tend to neglect sometimes. And it can also make a big difference to your complexion. So if your lips are looking and feeling as dry as the Sahara desert right now, here’s how to take care of dry winter lips.
